The Eiffel Tower Under Construction. 14 th March 1889. Construction started on the 26th January 1887. The tower had reached the first stage by January 1888 and the second stage by 19th June 1888. The Towers foundations at the Seine end extend forty – six feet below ground.

The Tower had the first stage modernised for the 1937 Exposition.
