Art History Talks and Courses in the Hampton, Walton, Weybridge, Molesey, Esher, Hersham and Kingston Areas
by Dr Laurence Shafe
Over the last few years I have covered the complete history of British art since 1500 and from September 2019 to March 2020 I will cover some the major art exhibitions that took place in London last year and four of my Tate Modern tours.
I give one two-hour lecture each week in Hampton on Wednesday morning from September to March each year. I have a doctorate in art history from Bristol University and I studied nineteenth-century British and French art at the Courtauld Institute but the course is much wider ranging. Each two-hour lecture typically discusses between 25 and 30 artworks and over a term I cover a wide range of historical periods and artists from Ancient Greece to the present day.
I am a Tate Guide and I have prepared twelve guided tours of both Tate Britain and Tate Modern. I recommend visiting the Tate and going on one of these free tours. They are held during the day and you do not need to book in advance, just turn up.
Thoughts are some of my ideas and speculations about a wide variety of topics.
My biography is on the About page and includes links to the essays and dissertations I wrote as a student from undergraduate level to my doctorate. If you would like to comment on the site or contact me please use the Contact page or the comment section at the bottom of most pages.
