| On-Line | | | Company website: | | | | | Website address: | http://www.on-line.co.uk | | Company Name: | On-Line | | Short Name: | On-Line | | Type of Business: | CAM, Games, Graphics, Internet, Investment, Simulation, Sports, Software, HR, Websites, RAD, Entertainment, and Real-time | | Description: | On-line was formed as a private limited company in May 1996. On 21st August 1996, the Company acquired On-line Entertainment. In addition to its own business, On-line Entertainment owns one third of the issued share capital of Transylvania Interactive. In 1991, On-line Entertainment produced some of the first CD-ROM titles ever published. We developed CDTV products for Commodore and then PC CD-ROMs.
The Directors, recognising that the CD-ROM market was highly competitive and that the Internet market was about to grow rapidly, decided to commence the provision of online services with particular emphasis on Multi-player and Massively Multi-player games.
By 1993, On-line Entertainment was involved in publishing CD-ROM's as well as developing third party projects including The Lawnmower Man, which became a significant No.1 success via publishers SCI PLC.
In 1995, On-line Entertainment began developing The Interactive Rocky Horror Show, a CD-ROM computer game, as a joint production through Transylvania Interactive.
The other joint venture parties are Diverse Productions Limited, a television production company, and Interfishnet Limited, owned by the author Richard O'Brien. Having been in the market since its early development, the Group has been able to master the technology and gain experience in the dynamics of online services. In particular, this means knowledge of the type of game that is attractive to online users, and in the development of real-time billing software for revenue collection. With the advent of high bandwidth Internet connections and the anticipated growth of the Internet, it is the Directors opinion that the provision of online services is becoming a major business opportunity, particularly in the delivery of games and entertainment.
Internet games is an exciting area with great potential in the future. For a number of years On-line has run Iron Wolves, a real-time, graphical, 3D naval simulation game where players can take part in World War II's battle for the Atlantic. It can be seen at http://www.on-line.co.uk/iron_wolves/index.shtml.
This has given the company time to research and learn about this area and in Early 2000 work started on 9to5Cafe.com a new games area aimed at the work place.
On-line Sports games was launched during 1999 with the release of Giant Killers a Soccer management game. In may 2000 Rod Cobain was appointed MD of On-line Sports Games Ltd ready for the release of the next product Giant Killers Euro Manager 2000.
